This is a viscous acrylic co-polymer coating designed for use primarily in the re-finish market. The cured product produces a tough and flexible membrane when applied at the rate of 18-20 square feet per gallon. The coating can be rolled, rolled followed by troweling (which is by far the most common technique), sprayed, or sprayed followed by troweling. When leveling semi-rough surfaces or producing a semi-smooth finish over existing wall claddings, a rounded-end trowel typically produces a finish with the least amount of trowel lines. Light trowel lines can be removed by sanding with a 60-grit coarse belt sander to achieve a perfectly smooth finish.

The product must be "set" before sanding. If balling occurs, the coating needs to cure longer. FlexRock Base Overlay produces a tough yet flexible membrane over various substrates, including but not limited to: existing EIFS, stucco, block and other masonry surfaces, metal and wood. The system can then be finished with any of the FlexRock line of finish coatings. The column below has been re-built with the FlexRock Activated Base Overlay product. Previously the corners of the EIFS column had missing pieces down to the base which was also rebuilt.

The wall above had numerous holes caused by golf balls' striking the EIFS cladding and penetrating into the foam substrate. After filling all holes and divots, the Base Overlay product was applied directly over the EIFS finish using a 9" roller followed by troweling. Upon completion of the Overlay system, the wall will be ready for a single application of the Finish Kote product. Depending upon the desired results, FlexRock Base Overlay can be applied at rates varying between 18 to 25 square feet per gallon of product. Base overlay can bridge most fissures and small cracks. Stress areas and larger cracks should be reinforced with FlexRock Polyester. The FlexRock Polyester can be embedded into the Base Overlay or our Base Kote product.
