Pictured right are the steps of the system when applying FlexRock over EPS. Bottom is the bare foam, then Base Kote, then Polyester, then Base Kote, then a second application of Base Kote. The last application is one of our finish products. When installing the system over EPS, all areas require the FlexRock Polyester to be embedded into the Base Kote. The foam installation differs slightly from a wood substrate in that the joints do not require a double fabric install. The wider roll of FlexRock Polyester can be applied directly to a smooth EPS surface. Some trim pieces may not require fabric if there is no exposure to pedestrian traffic.

EIFS products have been damaged by vandalism and accidents for decades. The FlexRock System is more durable than EIFS but not indestructible. Although the FlexRock Polyester makes it difficult to tear into the system, EPS can be crushed. The system may recover partially, but foam, once crushed, will have a permanent dent. The FlexRock system, when applied over wood and harder substrates, is more durable than conventional systems. The photo at left was taken at the entry way of a hotel. Note the multiple layers of the EIFS base, fiberglass mesh and finish. The EIFS finish had been repaired at least twice since installation. The cracking and total destruction of the area is because the products are brittle. FlexRock can be damaged, but not to the extent of other exterior claddings when subjected to the same abuse. FlexRock can also be repaired in the area of the damage normally without going from corner to corner or between expansion joints.

The contractor for this project was able to completely change the look and finish of the building and still leave wall panels intact. The gray aggregate surfaced wall was sealed and water-proofed with the use of the FlexRock System.

As we continue to learn about the possible uses for this product line, we welcome further questions or comments about specific projects.
