Window flanges are treated by embedding the FlexRock Polyester into the Base Kote material on all four sides. Windows are to be mounted directly on the exterior sheathing, leaving flanges exposed and a flat surface to install the system.

The FlexRock Base System can be used with conventional stucco installations to eliminate leaks coming in around the window flange. When fastening window lathe over the Flex-Rock membrane, all fasteners should be placed no closer than 1-1/2 inches from the terminating edge of the flange.

The mockup at left shows the stages of the system when used with conventional stucco. When penetrating the FlexRock Membrane during lathing, care should be taken to have staples or nails penetrate at 90 degrees to the wall surface. This helps reduce the risk of water entry around the fastener when passing through the membrane. Also, no fasteners should be allowed to penetrate in the area of flange edge where the membrane drops off the flange onto the sheathing.

Pictured right is a second-story addition being built over a single-story existing. The fabric being installed here joins the base of the FlexRock wall to the existing built-up asphalt roof, eliminating the need for metal counter-flashings which have a history of failure. This application will render the entire installation seamless and waterproof.

Conversely, the photo left shows a metal counter-flashing already installed on a new construction gable. Shingles will be installed on the sloped roof, and the FlexRock Stucco product will be installed down to the corner of the counter-flashing. This makes a very attractive, seamless and waterproof flashing.

The picture at right shows a retrofit leak repair to an existing EIFS system with a leaking counter-flashing. The FlexRock Polyester bridges the joint between the metal flashing and the EIFS wall. The lower half is coated to match the metal, and the upper half is coated to match the EIFS. This solves the leak issue. If this were a complete retrofit install, this would have been the first step before applying Re-Finish Kote.
